Englewood Hospital and Medical Center is an "acute care teaching hospital affiliated with Mount Sinai School of Medicine" in Englewood, New Jersey, United States.
It is known for its cardiac program and its bloodless surgery program. It was recently awarded a 4.7 million dollar federal grant to teach U.S. military doctors how to utilize such advanced bloodless treatment methods, for both patient health and overall cost advantages.[1]
It was incorporated in 1888 as a "non-profit, non-sectarian voluntary health care facility devoted to the care, maintenance and cure of the sick, the injured and the infirm." It opened on June 14, 1890 in with 12 beds on a three-acre tract of land on Engle Street.[2]
In 2006, much of the nursing staff went on strike after the union and hospital were unable to reach an agreement over a recent reduction in benefits and pensions. Temporary nurses were brought in.
